100 Marks Print | Colors & Comfort Zones
Inspired by The 100 Day Project, I came up with the idea of creating a piece of art by adding 1 mark a day for 100 days! Last year, I did this in black and white, and this year I decided to do it in color!
Watch a video of the process here!
Working in color was something that was a little scary and uncomfortable for me because it's not something I usually use a lot of--which was exactly why I needed to take a big leap out of my comfort zone and go all in!
This mixed media piece was created over the course of 100 days using different techniques, tools, materials, and colors! Before I began, I created 100 prompts--words that could help inspire me. I randomly picked a prompt everyday and used that word as the theme for that day's mark.
The entire project has felt like a collaboration with all the different things I worked with: the watercolor paper, the paints and inks, the brushes, palette knives, flowers, balloon, string, rubber band, and even a red onion! It wouldn’t have ended up the way it did without each element.
Creating this piece has been a beautiful experience in creative exploration, surrendering and allowing things to be, letting things develop at a slower pace, facing fears and insecurities, and immersing myself in the world of color. I am very excited to share it with you!
I hope this print inspires you to color outside the lines and step outside your comfort zone! That it can serve as a gentle reminder that life can be a little more interesting when we courageously take that step, that there are new perspectives for us to see, new things for us to try, and that the unknown can be a fun and exciting place to explore!
