MARCH PROMPT CARD

ENVISION & EXPRESS
Here are some ideas and inspiration to help you get started! If you're having some decision fatigue, the number in the spark symbol on the prompt card can help: use the text prompt that coordinates with that number which would be infuse.

MOMENTUM
-
- Add motion Tie your paintbrush to string and swing it. Attach your paper / canvas to a lazy susan and let it spin as you add your medium. Cover marbles, a toy car, golf ball, etc. in paint and let it roll around.
- Create consistently. Build momentum in your practice by creating for a consecutive number of days. Pick a time frame that works for you (7 days is a good place to start!) You can always add more days if you'd like. You do not need to make an entire piece--it can be as simple as having a piece of paper out and making a mark on it each day, using a coloring page and filling in a section, etc. Make it easy, start small, and keep going!
PROPORTION
-
- Exaggerate shapes Arrange different objects you have at home for a still life, then recreate the items while making them extra tiny / big / wide / skinny / short / tall. Here's an example.
- Learn to draw the human body proportions Try this tutorial for beginners. You can also create your own proportions.
UNUSUAL
-
- Odd combinations Here are 41 weird food combos to get you started. Consider the colors and textures that are being mixed together. What other strange combinations do they make you think of? How can you portray this in your art? (Not all the food combos listed were that weird but I have never heard of #11 before!)
- Unusual for you Is there a medium or technique you usually work within? Try something that is unusual for you. Look at your body of work--what have you not tried before? What would seem random to see in your sketchbook? If you're an abstract artist try a realistic portrait. If you usually work in bold colors, try soft muted ones instead. Always painting? Create a collage. Try something out of the norm!
WHIRL
- Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash Find inspo in the whirl of these little paws!
- Spiral Explore the significance and symbolism of this shape throughout history, in art, in science. What's your interpretation and the significance it holds for you?
INFUSE
- ReminiSCENT by Pallavi Padukone is an "experimental sensorial collection that uses natural ways to integrate and infuse scents into handmade textiles through weaving, embroidery, and fragrant embellishments." I think this concept is so innovative and creative!
- Make your own paints Pour some hot water in different cups and infuse them with various ingredients: teas, herbs, coffee, smashed flowers / fruit / vegetables, etc. See what colors you can create and use them in this month's artwork. View this as an experiment: which one worked the best? Do the colors change as they dry? Look into other ways of making paint.

COLORS ON THE PROMPT CARD:
- Brick Red
- Try pairing it with: cream, beige, blues, and greens
- Beige
- Try pairing it with: rust, red, grey, pink, black, or yellow
PATTERN ON THE PROMPT CARD
- Finish the pattern. Copy the pattern as shown on the prompt card then add to it until you fill up your page and complete it.
- Use the pattern as is. Draw the pattern on a separate piece of paper and cut it out to create a piece you can glue to your page. (Try using colored paper or markers / different colored pens.) You can enlarge the pattern or make it tiny.
And don't forget to consider the opposites of all the prompts above and see where that takes you!
